As a home-business owner, you might be CEO and President on the tax documents, but you do have deadlines and people counting on your goods/service so they can get their goals accomplished. For example, a wedding photographer who has decided to branch out on her own might be her own boss in that she can choose which weddings she wishes to take on as clients. But, once the contract is signed and everything paid for, she needs to cater to the brideís and groomís whims and deliver the product in a timely manner. They, the client, in a sense are ďthe boss.Ē
Telecommuters still report to managers and supervisors in the same way they would if they were still in the company office. True, you can work between the hours of 3a.m. and 8a.m if that is when you are at your peak level of performance, but just remember you donít live or work in a vacuum. Deadlines on projects, team communications, and collaboration with others will set the pace and time at which you work. Consider telecommuting as a part-time option. Remember, ďout of sight equals out of mindĒ and when it comes to snagging that plum project, you donít want to be forgotten simply because your face didnít pop up as much as Bobís or Karenís.
